Maiden name Stephen. Trained with Sir Arthur Cope 1896-1900. Studied at Royal Academy Schools 1901-1904. Married Clive Bell the critic in 1907. Later had daughter Angelica by lover Duncan Grant. Exhibited in the second Post-Impressionist Exhibition in 1912. Elected into the London Group in 1919 where she exhibited regularly. She also had two sons by her husband Clive, Quentin and Julian who both went on to become writers. Julian was killed by a shell fragment whilst driving a ambulance in the Spanish Civil War in 1937. She lived in Gordon Square 1922 - 1925. |
