Biographical Details and Notes
Whilst teaching at Kirkcaldy he met Edward Irving, they were to become friends for life.
Although he intended to take up law moving to Edinburgh to study, he returned to teaching, becoming a private tutor.
It was Edward Irving that introduced Thomas to his future wife Jane, Edward was tutoring her.
He declined an honour from Prime Minister Disraeli.
He requested not to be buried at Westminster Abbey, but is buried in Ecclefechan as he wished.
The National Trust for Scotland care for the cottage where he was born.
